Welcome to June! I just can't believe
that it is the middle of the year already but the weather is telling the tale
as the humidity here in the south is climbing faster than the thermals.
Two fly-ins this month to report on. The Cobb County RC club will hold their
Electric fly-in this weekend. They have a very nice facility and it was a lot
of fun last year with lots of flying and prizes. Learn more by
clicking here.
The Nations largest Electric gathering will take place in Andersonville Georgia
June 17-20. The Southeast Electric Flight Festival is a must attend event!
4 days of big time fun and if it is electric it will be there and it will be
flying! Atlanta Hobby will be there and I hope you can come by and sit a spell
with us. Some of the events going on during the week include lots of open flying
for everyone. Accomplished modeler and manufacturer demo pilots will be showing
their stuff including Team JR (Quique Somenzini, Peter Goldsmith, Steve Rojecki).
Flying for Futaba and Hacker brushless will be Jason Shulman and Gary Wright.
Jepe USA will be represented by Bob Belluomini. Zagi combat and the World Championship
Soarstar pylon racing (this is a must to see and fly in). Warbird Gaggle during
Saturday demos. Night flying and some full size aerobatic flying too. See and
learn more by clicking here and click here to see photos
from last years event!
Sharing the Secrets of Soaring. One of the biggest thrills I get is to
turn others on to aviation. When I was running my Hang Gliding school we taught
many many folks how to fly. Several of my most memorable flights include taking
my wife Tandem (dual) in my hang glider off of Makapu pointÝ in Hawaii, Flying
off of the 10,000 ft Volcano HaleakalaÝ and taking my dad Tandem from our home
hang Gliding site when we lived in Tennessee. This past Memorial Day was my
favorite flight to date as I got to take my own 7-year-old son on his first
Tandem flight in a Hang Glider. We launched from our front yard airstrip towed
aloft behind our Ultralight (a common way of getting airborne just like sailplanes).
At altitude we released from the tug and got some quality air time together.
It was a real thrill and Elijah really enjoyed it as he got to see the area
as very few humans ever will. You can see some photos of the flight by clicking here. I
want to extend many thanks to Greg Bitzer and to Matt McLelland for making this
very special flight possible.
To get some of this excitement for yourself I encourage you to visit your local
Hang Gliding or Soaring school and take a discovery flight with a certified
instructor. I assure you that you will learn to be a better RC pilot with just
a few Soaring flights. You will develop a keen sense of energy management, be
able to control you glide path with great accuracy and confidence. Using your
eyes, ears and touch on the control stick you will acquire a sub-conscious connection
to the wing and it will become an extension of yourself. With each Glider flight
you will learn more about micrometeorology which will enhance your ability to
observe what is happening around you during flight. On the ground you will learn
to read the sky and begin to see the lift by the shape and movement of the clouds
or by faint wisps of rising dust. You will note the slight change in the wind
direction as inflow to a nearby thermal. In the air you will feel the thermal
updrafts, wave lift and changes in the wind, the slight increase of airspeed
as your glider enters a thermal and the sounds of the wing when in lift and
sink. All of your senses will come alive and you will appreciate the elegance
of the wing and its efficiency. Go do it, take a few lessons you will be a better
pilot I promise. Learn more by visiting the United
States Hang Gliging Association or the Soaring
Society of America.
On to RC stuff! I have the newest Thunder Power High Dicharge Li-Poly
batteries in Stock. I have these in 2 and 3 cell 2100 packs and the newest
2 and 3 cell 1300 packs. More are on the way but these babies are putting out
10-12 C and the reports I have been seeing are great. The best part is I will
maintain the same price as the older style packs (for a while anyway). Look
for a discount on the older style cells below while the supply last (which
won't be long with the discount I am offering). I also just got a load of AXI
motors in and next month you will see a new Himax motor just for GWS stick mounts.
These will come with a newly designed gearbox and stick mount heat sync. Good
looking stuff!
As reported last month and as had been requested I have now enabled Paypal
payments on the web site. Look for the new Photocontest next month!
Fathers Day is this month, Hint Hint to the Spouse in the family. In
honor of this grand day use coupon code Saveten during check out and get $10
off any order over $100 during the month of June.
God Bless!
