Characteristics and Frequently Asked Questions:
Zing wings have a really cool look. This is one of the kids' favorites. It launches quite high, and has good soaring performance. Zing Wings are great for smaller flying areas and windier conditions (up to 5 mph winds). A great glider for younger pilots (ages 8 and up).
About Zing Wings
Zing Wings are high performance flying wing toy gliders that look much like hang gliders. They are hinged at the center so they can fold in half for launching. On each side of the hinge fold is a plastic hook. A launching rubber band is slipped under one of the hooks to launch the glider in the folded "launch" position. Launch altitudes of 80 to 100 feet can be attained. A small rubber band between the hooks pulls the wing "open" into the flying position when its launch speed slows sufficiently at altitude. With the wings in the flying position, the glider starts its flight which can last 20 seconds to several minutes.
Zing Wing launch and flight
Long duration flights are achieved by the gliders due to their low sink rate and ability to soar in lift (rising air). Zing Wings have achieved altitude gains of thousands of feet in thermal lift (rising warm air), and long flight duration's.
How durable are Zing Wings?
Zing Wings are quite durable, but should be handled with care, and be kept away from small children. They should not be left in hot places such as cars in the summertime.
Do they always come back?
Zing Wings look quite a bit like boomerangs, and sometimes come right back. They are, however, free flight gliders and are somewhat at the mercy of the wind. With practice, Zing Wings can be flown so they come back and you can catch them.
How high can they go?
Like almost anything, practice makes you better. We have measured launch altitudes on the ZR18 at over 130 feet. It does take practice and technique to get gliders that high. It is quite easy for a novice to launch them 60-100 feet high. I have had a few of the gliders reach several thousand feet in altitude in flight due to thermal lift.
Are they patented?
Yes
